Here, Sigtryggur Guðlaugsson, the headmaster of a nearby boarding school, along with his wife and students, created a charming little botanical garden in the early 20th century.
The purpose of the garden was to teach students how to cultivate the land, care for plants, and identify plants.
Thus, this botanical gem, enclosed by a stone wall, was created in the rugged natural surroundings of Iceland's Westfjords.
"Skrúður is a smiling sign that deserves to be seen, that shows how gentle and powerful the earth of your land can be."
This is how the Icelandic poet Guðmundur Ingi Kristjánsson described the garden in 1938.
