The exact construction of the "Löwen" is unknown, but it is undoubtedly one of Meersburg's oldest inns.
In the 15th century, it was the residence of Mayor Simon Weinzürns, who went down in Meersburg's annals as a Lake Constance rebel because he fought for citizens' rights to have a say in the city's constitution. However, he lost the fight and was drowned in Lake Constance in 1461. The Löwen was first mentioned as an inn in 1534, and for around 400 years, it has been called a drinking tavern.
One of the most famous guests of the red house was probably His Habsburg Majesty Joseph II in 1777.
At that time, Johann Baptist Linck, son of the then innkeeper, the Löwen, was growing up in the prosperous Löwen Inn. However, he did not become his father's successor, as his godfather sent him into the military at the age of 15, where he was soon promoted to lieutenant colonel. In 1827, he was ennobled by the Hessian Elector William I for saving the town of Hersfeld during the War of the Fourth Coalition. From then on, he was known as Lingg von Lingenfeld.
A commemorative plaque next to the imposing golden lion above the entrance door still bears witness to the famous innkeeper's son.
After further generations of innkeepers, Sigfrid Fischer finally saw the historic gem for sale in 1986 and didn't hesitate for long; he was immediately captivated by the Löwen.
After 30 years of successful management, he handed the hotel over to younger hands in 2016, his daughter Carmen Fischer, who now runs the hotel.
