A poignant memorial, dedicated to the loss of 201 sailors as they were returning home from the First World War. Their ship, the Iolaire (Eagle) ran aground on the Beasts of Holm, visible just 50 yards offshore, in gale-force conditions. Of the 201 lost, 65 were never recovered. Lewis still mourns their loss.
A paved path leads down to the memorial from a carpark higher up the hill.
The location is quite exposed, but offers stunning views south, towards Skye.
