If you're already here, you definitely shouldn't miss Europe's oldest and most species-rich bird of prey observatory. The open-air shows at the eagle observatory are a real highlight. They always take place at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Berlebeck Eagle Observatory is a bird park in the Berlebeck district of Detmold. It was founded in 1939 by the couple Kati and Adolf Deppe and is now a facility of the city of Detmold.

Beautifully landscaped and conveniently located on a mountain ridge for bird flight, the Berlebeck Eagle Observatory is home to 46 different species of birds of prey with a total of over 200 specimens. Free flight demonstrations take place several times a day during the season. A spectator stand with 160 seats was set up for this purpose. An educational and information center provides interesting facts about birds of prey, the history of falconry and the eagle observatory's role in species protection.
