Topper Lake, situated between South Lake and Mayhew Lake, is a quiet, remote spot with steep cliffs on its southern end, forming the boundary of the BWCAW. This short campsite trail spur leads to the only designated spot on the lake and is just 20 feet below the Border Route Trail (BRT). The ground slopes gently toward the lake, but you can find at least two flat spots ideal for pitching a tent. The campsite is spacious, with enough room and trees for setting up a tarp. It's a wonderful spot to spend the night or stop for a break during a long hike to have lunch and enjoy the scenery. If the campsite is occupied, there are plenty of places along the shoreline for a lovely lakeside picnic.
