Altsachsenheim is the ruin of a hilltop castle on the district of the city of Sachsenheim. The ruin of the castle is located on the slope of the plateau above the village Untermberg in the Enztal, 230 m above sea level. NN. The hilltop castle, usually referred to in the sources as "Äußere Burg" or in 1787 also "Obermberg"[2], is said to have been built in the 13th century as the ancestral seat of the lords of Sachsenheim.[3] Also because Großsachsenheim Castle was built in place of a previous castle from the 11th century, which has been proven by excavations, the State Monuments Office considers it likely that the Outer Castle on the boundary of the boundary was not their ancestral seat, but built by the Lords of Remmingen who were related to them became.[4] The Herrenhof in Remmingen and the Remminger Schlössle in Rotenacker also go back to this family. Its castle stables above the former Remmingen can still be seen. The Herrenhof in Remmingen or Remmigheim is said to have been the actual headquarters of the Sachsenheimers as a branch of the Remmingers.[5] It is possible that a line of the lords of Remmingen renamed themselves Sachsenheim when they came into possession of this lordship.[6]

During the feud between the Sachsenheimers and the Württembergers as part of the Schlegler War, the troops of Count Eberhard III. von Württemberg destroyed many Sachsenheim goods. The state monument office found evidence that "Altsachsenheim" was also affected.[7]

Around 1430 the castle went to the lords of Nippenburg. After the lords of Sachsenheim died out, their remaining possessions fell to the House of Württemberg in 1561.
