The Renaissance building of the castle was built around 1540, initially as a typical north German brick building, without any ornamental façade. Previously, there was a castle-like facility at this point, from which no traces are left. The attic was rebuilt in 1662, after the house was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War, and is still preserved in its original state.

It was not until 1834, the castle was under King Frederick William III. its present appearance with the almost square floor plan, the turrets and the arrangement of the doors and windows. Since then, the hall of honor has been decorated with an opulent stucco ceiling.

From now on, the castle served as the residence of the royal lords and their hunting guests. Later it was used as a residential and administrative building for the Oberförsterei and in the period 1973 to 1989 as a cultural center of forestry workers of the State Forestry Bernau.

Today, part of the exhibition "Hunting and Power" is located in the hunting lodge. The hall is also used for concerts and readings. (Https://schorfheide-museum.de/de/schloss)

In the Schorfheide, "hunting and power" have been intertwined for almost 1,000 years. The permanent exhibition of the same name, which extends over the ensemble of hunting lodge, museum barn and coach house, illustrates this using examples from history and contemporary history. A multimedia presentation gets you in the mood for a tour of the exhibition. Readings, lectures and classical concerts can also be attended in the hunting lodge. The castle park invites you to linger with its sun terrace.

Opening hours:
Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m
(Closed on Mondays - except public holidays)

Entry:
€7.00 - adults
€4.00 - volunteers, schoolchildren over 14 years of age, students
€1.50 - children up to 14 years
€5.00 - per person for groups of 20 or more people
