Built in 1925, the observation tower on the Eselsberg is about 18 m high. The hut of the Swabian Albverein is farmed on Sundays and public holidays and the wood-clad lookout tower can be climbed for 50 cents. From the top you have a 360 degree panoramic view of the Löwensteiner mountains, the Swabian Alb and the Black Forest. On the almost 400 m high mountain was once a castle, which was first mentioned in 1188 as Dienstmannsitz the Counts of Vaihingen. Today only the moat bears witness to the former castle.

The donkey castle tower is a lookout tower on the donkey mountain near Ensingen, a district of Vaihingen an der Enz in the northwest of the district of Ludwigsburg. Its name derives from the castle of the lords of donkey castle, which once stood on the donkey mountain.

The 392 meter high Eselsberg is located on the southern edge of the Stromberg and can be reached from Ensingen from the parking lot at the cemetery over a 2 km long hiking trail through the vineyard and forest. From the tower you have a view to the south and east over the district of Ludwigsburg to Stuttgart, to the southwest to the northern Black Forest with Pforzheim and in the west in the Kraichgau near Bretten.

The donkey mountain tower was built in 1925 by the Swabian Albverein, of which it is still farmed. It is 18 meters high and designed as a wooden construction on a stone base. Tower and restaurant are open on Sundays and public holidays. At the foot of the tower there is a refuge and a playground. (Source: Wikipedia)
