The Source of the Unstrut
The Unstrut River originates in the predominantly Catholic Eichsfeld region near the small town of Kefferhausen. On the outskirts of the town, you'll find the idyllically situated and well-maintained grounds around the spring site, complete with picnic facilities. This spot invites you to linger. An information board draws attention to the approximately 188-kilometer-long cycle path through the river valley. Those wishing to start an Unstrut cycle tour from here can arrive via the train station in Silberhausen, approximately 6 kilometers away.
Starting your journey through the Unstrut Valley from the spring site, you'll soon pass under a railway viaduct on your way to Dingelstädt. You'll then pass the "Kerbscher Berg" family center. The first church building of this former monastery was already documented around 800.
