Orchards are a defining part of the Ettlingen cultural landscape, especially in the area of the foothills, and are typical landscape elements. Already at the beginning of the 20th century, the people of Ettlingen knew how to market this beauty for tourism. Because from Karlsruhe, tram trips to the cherry blossom in Ettlingen were offered, reminded the head of the garden and cemetery department Ingrid Lotterer. Today there is also the aspect of species protection in the orchards, as they offer apartments for numerous insects, birds and small animals on several floors, like a high-rise building. Who lives there can be read on the orchard trail that the members of the BUND in Ettlingen have created on the Jubiläumswiese at the end of the Horbach valley.

The “Jubiläumswiesen” were created in the past three years by tree sponsors who donated so many trees in a short time that both areas are completely occupied.
