In the well-restored chapel there is unexpectedly on the upper floor a small museum with extensive information on the history of the Willroda Forsthaus. Much multimedia processed, every 15 minutes a movie is running. Access is within the chapel via a narrow, small staircase to the left of the entrance.

The most valuable and oldest building in the complex is the chapel, a well-preserved, three-storey ashlar stone building in the Romanesque style with a round arch frieze and an outward-facing apse, but poor in ornamental shapes. Because of this architectural style, it was previously assumed that the chapel was built from a defense tower, which was built around 1100 or in the 13th century. Among other things, the construction historian Rainer Müller believes it is more likely that the castle chapel was only modeled in 1495 by Freidank von Willrode in the Romanesque style and is not a conversion of an earlier defense tower. If necessary, the building should serve as the last refuge for the residents (Wikipedia)
