Named after the area it is in. Ontario-born Joseph Suder (1869-1922) and his German-born wife, Kate (b. 1870), homesteaded in the Winterburn area in the 1890s. They came west shortly after their marriage in 1892. In 1902 the family purchased a second farm. In 1957 the farm was sold to one of the Suder children, Milton. While Joseph died in 1922, Kate reached her 102nd birthday in 1972.
