On the shores of the lake lies the village Kochel am See - an ideal starting point for tours in this area. The Kochelsee is additionally fed by the inflow from the Walchensee power plant. On the southeastern shore of the lake is an imposing substation.

        The Kochelsee is located in the Vor-Karwendel between Walchensee and the Loisach / Kochelsee moorland. At just under 6 square kilometers - slightly smaller than the neighboring Walchensee - it is still one of the larger lakes in Bavaria and up to 66 meters deep.
