Windsor-born Wilfred Gilroy Webb (1888-1961) was an early homesteader who supported the provision of electricity to what is now the Willowdale subdivision. He first came to Edmonton in 1911, joining family members who had moved here earlier. With the outbreak of WWI, however, the family fell on hard times and left Edmonton, settling in Bluesky in the Peace River Country. After attempting to run a taxi business there, Webb returned to Edmonton in 1923 and farmed several plots of land. In 1934 he settled on property to the west of the city limits, then at 149 Street. He soon became a staunch supporter of community and school activities and played a key role in the building of the area's first power transmission lines. The Wilfred Webb Park is in the Ormsby neighbourhood and has an area of 1.82 ha.
