    Chapelle Saint-Jacques de Rochegude It is located at an altitude of 967 m. These remains are the last witness to an ancient fortress which dominated the Allier valley and the Gévaudan road and which also marked the border between the dioceses of Puy and Clermont.
    Its main function was to control passageways.
    The chapel faces east. Its bedside is rounded, and topped with a small comb bell tower. The interior, very modest, is composed of a choir at the end of the oven and a small nave.
    A stop is necessary when you are on the way to Santiago de Compostela

      This church is dedicated to James the Elder (Saint-Jacques), probably the most prominent apostle (along with Peter and Paul) and national saint of Spain. The European network of the Ways of St. James, usually marked by the symbol of the yellow shell on a blue background, leads pilgrims to his grave. This is located in the northern Spanish town of 'Santiago de Compostella', where he rests in a magnificent basilica built in his honor.
      The martyrdom (execution) of James is recorded by the evangelist Luke in the New Testament “Acts of the Apostles”. The feast day of Saint James in the calendar of saints is July 25th.
