Built between 1824 and 1829 under King William I by his court architect Giovanni Salucci. The castle, planned as a summer residence, was never permanently occupied. Between 1877-1918 she housed the painting and sculpture collection of the king, from 1921 a World War II library and from 1933 additionally a war museum. Today you can find there the biological collection of the State Museum of Natural History.

The Museum Schloss Rosenstein is a museum of biology in Stuttgart. It is part of the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart, which also includes the Museum am Löwentor and some field offices. The Natural History Museum in the Rosenstein Castle is located in the same name Rosensteinpark and has about 115,000 visitors per year.
