One of the most rewarding ascents in the Eastern Sierra mountains is Horseshoe Meadows Road, just south of Lone Pine. It passes through the Alabama Hills area, where hundreds of Hollywood movies and TV westerns were filmed during the 1950s.
The climb starts from the canyon. You will pass through horse pastures until you begin ascending. For much of the ride, there is a large drop-off so be careful around the switchbacks. Along the climb are many places to stop, turn around, and take in the Owens Valley.
