The village of São Bartolomeu do Outeiro was also known as Oriola de Cima, since until 1836 it belonged to the old town of Oriola.
The Parish Church, of medieval origin and whose patron saint is S. Bartolomeu do Outeiro, is built "on a high rock mound that dominates the village", and was remodelled after 1534. An interesting image of the Patron Saint is "S. Bartolomeu - a marble sculpture dating from the end of the 15th century" holding the "devil".
Situated at one of the highest points of the Serra de Portel, it has an admirable landscape, rich in historical and archaeological remains.
