              Many tree species are very impressive. I particularly liked the red-brown trunks of pine trees. Many pretty orchids bloom in early summer. A hike over to Gasthaus Lenzenberg takes about 1 hour. There children can marvel at the many animals.

                  The Liliental near Ihringen was bought by the state forest administration in 1957 in order to set up a test site for plant cultivation and at the same time an arboretum (collection of rare trees).

                  In the meantime, the Liliental is rich in tall trees that are otherwise not so easy to see.

                  Of particular interest are the sequoia trees planted in 1960, which thrive very well in Liliental, and the multitude of orchid species that feel at home here.

                  Around 255 hectares of seed plantations, an arboretum, clone collections, tree, shrub and test facilities, meadows, huts and campfire sites, fish ponds, playgrounds and breakout points are available to researchers and hikers alike.

                  A recreation area that could not be more diverse.

                    In addition to the exotic plant park directly at the Liliental farm, the arboretum features various small themed groves and experimental areas. I only visited a portion of these on my hike; one could certainly spend quite a bit of time here on the paths with their information panels.
