From Chabrey, you climb approximately 70 meters in elevation to Montmagny via the small pass through the Bois de Charmontel.
Whether on foot or by bike, it doesn't matter; the formerly well-maintained road is now very quiet and in poor condition. The broken surface is now covered with grass, and in shady/damp spots, the road is overgrown with moss.
The route appears to be lightly trafficked and offers plenty of variety thanks to its steady gradient, several curves, and exciting retaining walls, most of which are overgrown with moss due to the damp forest. A small rest area with a wooden table and benches invites you to linger at the beginning of the climb.
As soon as you emerge from the forest, you have a clear view of the Montmagny water tower...an impressive structure, and earlier photos show that you had a fantastic panoramic view from the viewing platform. Unfortunately, the tower hasn't been accessible for several years (it was always closed in winter)!
