A Romantic Poet, Isabel Pagan (1740-1821) is best known for writing the poem 'Ca' the Ewes' which was later adapted by Robert Burns into the popular song.
Isabel was also known as 'Tibbie', she was born with a deformed foot and several health issues which made her unsuitable for the usual farm labour she made her living through writing, singing and operating a 'Howff', an unofficial pub and gathering place.
There is also a mural to her in the nearby village of Muirkirk.
