Lake Meredith National Recreation Area spans an impressive 44,978 acres nestled in the plains of the Texas Panhandle. It is a beautiful contrast to the surrounding dry grasslands and is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking, camping, boating, and fishing around Lake Meredith—a reservoir created by the Sanford Dam on the Canadian River. Over centuries, the river carved 200-foot canyons that frame the lake, creating peaceful coves that are home to a diverse range of wildlife, including migratory birds and many other species.
Access to this area is free and open to the public year-round, with ample parking, restrooms, and drinking water.
