South of Schüttorf and before the Amsterdam-Berlin railway line, the Vechte flows through the "Vechtesee Schüttorf," which it then leaves in two branches. The small island of "Vechtewerder" forms between the two branches of the Vechte. A rest area for sheep has been established here. The two branches of the Vechte flow together again before the bed slide in Schüttorf. At the Vechtesee, the two branches are crossed by the Amsterdam-Berlin railway line and by a busy cycling and hiking path. At normal water levels, a sandy beach forms on the opposite bank of the "Vechtesee Schüttorf." Waterfowl (egrets) can often be observed here. The Vechtesee can be reached via an unpaved path that branches off to the left of Schüttorfer Straße about 200 meters before the railway crossing.
