Bonane Heritage Park is an archaeological park in Bonane, County Kerry, Ireland, which takes visitors on a journey through 5,000 years of history. Situated in the scenic Sheen River Valley, surrounded by the Sheehy and Caha Mountains, the park is home to over 250 well-preserved archaeological sites from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages to the pre-Famine period.
Visitors can take a 2km loop walk that takes in a variety of historic structures including a stone circle, a ring fort, standing stones and a fulacht fiadh (an ancient cooking place). This walk not only offers a glimpse into the lives of Ireland’s early settlers, but also offers stunning views of the surrounding valley and mountains.
The park is suitable for both amateur and professional photographers and walkers. There is also a Fairy Walk, designed specifically for families with young children, where they can discover little fairy houses, adding to the magic of the visit.
Bonane Heritage Park is located approximately 10km from Kenmare, where the Ring of Beara and the Ring of Kerry meet, making it an ideal base for exploring the region. The park is open all year round and admission is €5 for adults and €10 for a family ticket.
