The origins are said to reach as far back as the Ming Dynasty (that ended in 1644). The church grounds and building were expanded in the last year of the Qing Dynasty (1911) with a main church building and an attached residential building.
During the Cultural Revolution the main church building was destroyed, only leaving the bell tower. The church was then rebuilt in the 1990s, and judging by its current appearance (Mar 2025) it was recently renovated, shining in bright colors in the sunshine - which also makes it popular for photo shots ;-)
