During the gold rush and mining days, the Reavis Ranch was located here with paddocks and apple orchards. Reavis Ranch is named after Elisha Reavis, a man who had discovered the valley while looking for gold. Instead he found an area pretty much different from the desert that surrounds the "Superstition Mountains": tall trees, cool springs and soil fit to grow fruits and vegetables.He built up a farm with horses and mules, even an apple orchard. Since he was all alone, he was known as the "Hermit of the Superstition".
One day in 1896, he was found decapitated, just four miles from his ranch on the trail. Whether it was the act of a jealous competitor or some mistreated American native, nobody will never find out. Today you can still find some remnants from that time.
