On the edge of the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, there was a Chinese village. It was built starting in 1781 and was named 'Mou-lang'. Today, 13 of the 21 original buildings still stand – but you have to look for them, as their "Chinese style" is inconspicuous and they are surrounded by various villas that were built later.

The most striking and particularly beautiful building is the pagoda, which has only one story (original Chinese pagodas have more) and red columns. And the top wasn't part of the original design – it was intended for an aviary. "Mou-lang" was built as a decoration at the time and was also intended to produce farm produce for the nobility. The district where these "Chinese" buildings are located is now called "Mulang," and you can see many beautiful villas there.
