ST. MICHAEL JOSEFS CHAPEL
The fate of the St. Michael-Josefs-Kapelle is closely linked to the history of the Josefsverein founded in 1891. The construction was decided at the suggestion of Pastor Michael Müller in 1897 and realized with the active help of the entire village population in 1903/04. The stones were broken on the Kirnberg and driven to the Beilstein by hand and clamping service. The ceremonial consecration of the chapel took place on July 8th, 1904 in the presence of 22 clergymen. The originally existing ridge turret was later replaced by the current bell tower with 2 bells "Immaculata" and "St. Catherine" replaced. In 1955 the chapel was converted into a war memorial. The altar was embellished with a relief and the Pieta renovated. 98 crosses with the names of those killed, missing and killed in bombing raids were purchased and placed on the walls of the chapel. The lime tree avenue laid out in 1905 was extended by a further 6 trees to a total of 12. Since 2001, the chapel has been illuminated in the evenings all year round. Due to its exposed location on the cliffs of the Beilstein, the chapel is very exposed to the weather and therefore constantly requires large expenditures for maintenance and renovation. The necessary care measures and the necessary financial resources have been raised by the members of the Josefsverein since the construction, an unusual maintenance of a house of worship.
