The stately brick plaster building was built in 1840 in Gothic-Byzantine forms. The plan based on the Italian model is attributed to Carlo Ignazio Pozzi. The single-aisled nave is adjoined by a 5/8 choir of the same height and a square tower. Slender pointed arch windows and tracery frieze under the cornice adorn the town church.

With its delicate tower crowns, it is said to have once been one of the most beautiful churches in Anhalt. Unfortunately, the church was badly damaged in the war and lost much of its original beauty after reconstruction. Of the neo-Gothic interior, only the alabaster baptismal font from 1857, donated by Prince Leopold, has survived. The oldest piece of equipment in the church is the late Gothic wooden sculpture (around 1500) of the risen Christ, which hangs above the pulpit. It originally came from the village church in Schierau. The church meets modern requirements as a community center. As early as 1963, a winter church was built under the horseshoe-shaped gallery. There is also a kitchen and toilets.

The church itself can also be used for multiple purposes, with tables and chairs or even for dancing. The fact that there is now movable seating instead of the rigid pews has a painful background, however. The flood of the century in 2002 was half a meter high in the church, undermining the floor and causing it to collapse.

Since the extensive interior renovation, which was completed in 2003, the church has once again presented itself in all its light and simple beauty.
