The Empakaai Crater is best reached via the Ngorongoro Crater rim. The journey is only possible with a suitable jeep or Land Rover. The entrance is at an altitude of 2,500 m at the viewing point. There is very little going on, you are usually completely alone.
The ascent and descent are the same. The path leads right through the jungle. The wild animals - buffalo 🦬, leopard 🐆, baboon 🐒, jackal 🐕 etc. all live freely. You have to be careful of the buffalo 🦬. That's why the tour is only possible with an armed (machine gun) ranger❗️
Once you arrive at Kater Boden, you can walk a bit along the lake, and in the dry season even all the way around the lake. It would take about 3 hours to walk around the lake. The ascent and descent can be done in 1 1/2 hours. The lake is mainly home to flamingos and baboons.
The crater lake is of volcanic origin and alkaline.
A wonderful experience with great views - highly recommended. 🤩😎👍
