The Lutherstein near Stotternheim is a place of peace and contemplation and framework for church events. It is a destination of visitors who come to Erfurt on Luther's tracks or in their spare time on the "Erfurt lakes" on the way. East of Stotternheim stands the Lutherstein. After visiting his parents in Mansfeld, Martin Luther, who was a law student at the University of Erfurt at the time, was on July 2, 1505, on his way back to Erfurt. As was customary for students at the time, he took this path back on foot. Near Stotternheim he got into such a severe thunderstorm that he feared for his life. In this situation he is said to have exclaimed: "Help St. Anna, I want to become a monk."
15 days after this event, on 17 July 1505, Martin Luther enters the Erfurt Augustinian monastery, where he made his monastic vows in 1506.

In 1917, a citizen of Erfurt donated a memorial stone made of Swedish granite, which was placed at the most obvious place according to historical data. The Lutherstein has always been the destination of visitors who come to Erfurt on Luther's tracks.
