Berlin-Tempelhof Airport is one of the first commercial airports in Germany and has a fascinating history. During the legendary airlift in 1948 and 1949, planes took off and landed at an impressive 90-second intervals. The runway was relatively short, so mainly smaller planes were used. Tempelhof mainly served domestic German and European destinations.
Until it closed in 2008, Tempelhof was one of three international commercial airports in the greater Berlin area, and its history is closely interwoven with the development of the city. Today, the site of the former airport is a popular place for leisure activities - here you can let off steam on the Tempelhofer Feld or explore the impressive parts of the building on an exciting guided tour.
