Klauhörn Oak Avenue - Favorite place with listening station
Listed Oak Avenue, Oak of the Ammerland
Surrounded by huge, old oaks, the Oak King stands on the edge of the village square in Klauhörn, who seems to direct the trees and his surroundings.
The artist Jörg Ridderbusch has created an object for this favorite place that names many contrasts and thereby tells a charming story about the place: Klauhörn is a very old settlement in what is now the municipality of Apen. In order to have protection from roaring winds, the settlers planted oaks a long time ago to provide protection. Ridderbusch erects a monument to these trees in the form of the Oak King. -In his right hand, the king holds the Aper globe, which here, however, is a reference to a Boßel ball, which is at least as important to the Klauhörners as the oaks and which anchors the old king in the present.
Ridderbusch designed the figure of the king from sheet steel strips.
