          The historic elevator in Bad Schandau, built in 1905 (electrically!) by the enterprising builder and city councilor Rudolf Sendig to promote tourism, creates a second entrance to the Swiss-style villas in Ostrau (most of which he also built). The view over Schandau is sometimes slightly hazy, but the shadows and contours of the elevator itself are always impressive in the light!
