Established in 1893, the Victoria Park Botanical Gardens (VPBG) is a landmark in the cultural history of Antigua and Barbuda as one of the few open spaces in the capital city of St. John's. The gardens cover 2.4 hectares of the city and are home to numerous tree species. In the midst of the bustling capital city, the gardens provide a haven for citizens and tourists; they are designed as a green space for relaxation and exercise.
The goals and purposes of the Victoria Park Botanical Gardens are to create a family-friendly green space for the public, to provide a focal point for the presentation of environmental projects, to create a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment for educational and recreational activities, and to provide an alternative destination for visitors.
