The "Thick Oak" natural monument features seating for resting and information panels about the tree and its history. The "Thick Oak" was once probably the strongest oak in the region and a popular destination for excursions. For centuries, it served as a playground, a festival ground, a shelter, and a place of wonder.
On August 3, 1874, at approximately 2 p.m., this Methuselah of the Nehren Forest, likely over 1000 years old, collapsed due to its age. The fallen trunk remained an attraction, as stories tell of entire school classes finding space inside the oak's hollow interior.
