    The name of the tower comes from the 1886 built predecessor tower. Maria Josefa was the daughter of the Saxon prince George. The new tower was built in 1998 and is 30 meters high. The view extends in good visibility in the south to the ridges of the Erzgebirge with Fichtelberg, Keilberg and Auersberg and in the north to Leipzig with the Battle of Nations monument as a striking point.

Only when the high forests around the Totenstein were cleared in the mid-19th century did people rediscover the mountain as a fantastic vantage point. At the dawn of the industrial age, the area around the rock was conquered primarily by the Chemnitz urban population looking for relaxation.
          During this time, the Ore Mountain Association, which had made a name for itself in the care of the homeland and tourism, took over the site.             On August 10, 1886, representatives of both clubs were able to lay the foundation stone. The document, which was safely handed over to earth on this occasion, culminates in the wish:
            "May the building show the grandeur and splendor of our divine nature to the visitors for a long time to come!" Flags were soon fluttering from the top of the tower. On October 4, 1886, in the presence of authorities, associations and many happily moved people, he was euthanized by the chairman of the Limbach association, Dr. Wezel handed over to the public on behalf of the Rabenstein and Limbach branches. The tower was named "Maria - Josefa - Turm" after Prince George's daughter.
