An information board at the intersection of Oude Abstraat and Schaatbroekstraat tells you about nature management in the Schaatbroekbos (with a map of the area), the 5-hectare nature reserve behind the board that is owned by the municipality of Overijse.

At the end of the previous millennium, a nature trail for schools was created in the Schaatbroekbos with all kinds of components, only a few of which you recognize. But the path through the forest and the area that is also known as the Borredelle nature reserve (which means spring valley, so there is a spring that used to be more important to the village) is definitely worth it.

It makes an upward circular movement that requires quite some effort. At the top, you reach a more modern district via a small path, but the views over the spring valley and forest before you get that far are definitely worth it (especially when the trees are bare) and the higher you are, the larger the entire piece of nature appears to be and so it is still worth walking along here. There is also an entrance at another location where you will find the bunker mentioned in another highlight.

Here, at the entrance to the small nature reserve with information board, you will also see a bicycle lock. According to an article in Het Nieuwsblad, it was placed to keep out quads and dirt bikes, a challenge that several hillside forests have faced.
