At the Grote Gete in Tienen you will find a small square wedged between three streets: the Reizigersstraat, the Beauduinstraat and the Paardenbrugstraat.
That square is called 't Schip (see below) and is surrounded by several historically interesting buildings. In addition, the finishing touches are currently being put to the redevelopment of 't Schip, which is to become a meeting place. The results are impressive. The Grote Gete was neatly opened up again, as in the old days, and provided with beautiful wooden terraces where it is pleasant to stay for young and old.
At the Grote Gete, the street ran over a large bridge, which was called the Paardenburg. This was used for the crossing of horses and carts. At the bridge, the Grote Gete was vaulted in 1873 to create 't Schip (the square was named after an inn that was located on the corner of Reizigersstraat at the time, which in turn was named after the disappeared shipping with flat boats that had emerged in the 16th century.
The Grote Gete at 't Schip has been precisely reopened to create one coherent park valley landscape, where water experience, greening (bank planting, trees, facade gardens, ...) and de-hardening of the square play an important role.
The frames for the information boards were already there, only the boards themselves and 't Schip is a place to take with you on your walk.
