The "Moinho Grande" (Big Mill) was transformed into a watch post during the summer months.
Al-Canaltra, a name of Arabic origin, was the name given to the lands of Alcoentre in the past. As is the case throughout our country, the Arab influence is constant and the town of Alcoentre is no exception. Founded in 970, it was also another conquest of D. Afonso Henriques from the Moors.
Located in the northwest of the municipality, covering 47 km2, it is a wine-producing town par excellence and is surrounded by a large forest area.
The well-known prison has also been located here since the mid-20th century, which is already the most important historical fact in the parish. The population is spread across places such as: Espinheira and Casais das Boiças, Tagarro, Quebradas and the town itself.
