On the premises of the Barmbek hospital, Vattenfall produces environmentally friendly energy for the Hamburg district heating system in a historic boiler house using the latest technology.
The peak load heating plant, which was inaugurated at the end of 2006, generates heat and feeds it into the Hamburg district heating system. In addition, it ensures the hospital's heat supply in the event of a district heating failure. The heart of the primarily gas-fired heating plant are the two large-capacity water boilers with a thermal output of 24.5 megawatts each, which can each be started up independently with two burners.
