Lion Monument, Sempach
The monument is located on the Sempach church or monument square. It was erected for the battle centenary celebrations in 1886.
The lion or national monument was erected for the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Sempach in honor of Petermann von Gundoldingen and Winkelried (completed in 1888). The Zurich sculptor Urs Eggenschwiler created the monument. It was originally surrounded by a wrought iron fence and was reached via a staircase.

On the city street near St. Stephen's Church, a round column stands on a square base, topped by a seated lion. The column has a circular inscription at the top and bottom; two sides of the base each have two carved coats of arms, and the other sides have an inscription. Information panel next to the column.
