The Albert Schweitzer Hut Association was founded in 2002 to preserve the Albert Schweitzer Hut in Altenfeld as a cultural and tourist destination. Originally built in 1967 by the German Red Cross (DRK), the hut now serves as an event venue, a rest stop for hikers, and accommodation.
With its income and fundraising campaigns, the association supports social projects in the spirit of Albert Schweitzer, particularly the jungle hospital he founded in Lambarene, Gabon.
