The iconic Zion National Park lies at the intersection of three major ecosystems - the Mojave Desert, the Colorado Plateau and the Great Basin. From the top of Angels Landing to the bottom of The Narrows, this desert oasis is full of possibilities. The peace and tranquility of this region inspired early pioneers to give it the name it bears today, which means something like a place of refuge or sanctuary.

This is a level trail along the Virgin River that connects the Visitor Center with the South Campground and Zion Canyon. It largely follows the stream, crossing it three times and two tributaries. The name "Pa'rus" comes from a Paiute word meaning "bubbling and falling water." In fact, you can often hear the river while hiking in this pristine and peaceful setting. A few small water cascades, among other things, provide the background noise. The dense riverbank vegetation offers good bird watching opportunities. All visitors should be aware that the stream contains toxic algae that is fatal to dogs! Please do not bring your dog with you.
