The highlight of the baroque monastery complex of Melk Abbey is the Abbey Church. The magnificent interior was designed by the architect Antonio Beduzzi. It is richly decorated with gold leaf, stucco and marble.

Melk Abbey has always had a close connection with Austrian history. Many rulers have visited the house, and the rooms that can be reached via the Imperial Staircase were reserved for the imperial family.
The Imperial Wing is accessed via the Imperial Staircase. It is located at the south-western end of the Prelate's Court. The magnificent Imperial Staircase with columns made of imperial stone also features rich stucco decoration. Two allegorical figures represent steadfastness and bravery - the motto of Emperor Charles VI. The stucco ceiling shows the double-headed eagle.
The museum is now housed there.
