The intention was to create an enormous spatial view, but the churches did not want to budge. That is why this building was placed in the middle of the sight line in front of both churches

Located at the top of Avenida dos Aliados, the Câmara Municipal is one of the largest local authority buildings in Portugal. With two wide ramps on either side of the main entrance, access to this modern neoclassical structure is easy, there is a large clock centered in the building's 70m tower, keeping time across the avenida. The famous architect from Porto, Correia da Silva, designed the Câmara Municipal and its construction began in 1920.
