It is believed that here in Mortelgrund, south of Sayda in the Ore Mountains, a mill was built for the first time around 1300. It has belonged to the von Schönberg family since its inception. Everyone who lived within a mile had their flour to grind here. In the 16th century, the mill already had up to six grinding cycles and drew its whipping water from two valleys. In 1784 Adam Rudolph von Schönberg sold the plant to J.C. Eilenberger from Randeck. Around 1800 the mill was converted into a board mill. With a diameter of just over ten meters, it had the largest mill wheel in Saxony until 1910, after which a Francis turbine was used to generate electricity.

At the end of the 19th century there was also a pub - a popular excursion destination arose. At the end of the 80s, the buildings fell into disrepair and were only restored piece by piece at the turn of the millennium. Today there is a meeting place here.
