The Collegiate Church – A Splendor of Faith
Since around 1740, the Collegiate Church has presented itself as a light-filled and colorful sacred space in the style of the South German Late Baroque.
The ceiling frescoes by Matthäus Günther from Augsburg depict St. Augustine and the church's patron saint, Mary. The stucco work, including the countless pink cherubs, is by Anton Gigl from Wessobrunn.
The building itself, however, dates back to the Middle Ages. The imposing Romanesque bell tower and the three-aisled nave were built around 1200. The high Late Gothic chancel was added around 1470/80.
