The gorge is very nice to walk through and belongs to the regional highlights.
Downhill leads on the left side above the gorge a challenging MTB trail, which can alternatively be hiked for a circular path.

The gorge is a great experience with the many eroded rock formations and winding paths.
Unfortunately it was quite dry with us, so that many mosquitoes were to be found in the standing puddles.
We also spent most of our time alone and met only one family all the way, so relaxed.

Great nature, exciting gorge.

The narrow gorge has some good outcrops in the Middle and Upper Burgsandstein (Löwenstein Formation). In some cases, half-caves have also been created by undercutting. A hiking trail leads through the gorge.

The Massendorfer Gorge is a gorge about 300 meters long, 50 meters wide and up to 20 meters deep in Burgsandstein. Here, a small stream, which rises at the top of the gorge, buried deep in the Burgsandstein. By under-flushing, some half-caves have been created. In the gorge, the layers of the Burgsandstein are clearly visible on the basis of outcrops and rock formations.
The gorge is freely accessible year-round. South of Massendorf there is a small parking lot, from which it can be reached on foot in ten minutes. After rainy periods and snowmelt it is slightly more difficult to access.

Through the gorge, some signposted trails lead.
