        Castle ruins of a two-part castle. A round tower and a square house stood on the southern crest of the hill. A farm building stood on the north crest of the hill.
        In 1936 the ruins were excavated. The castle was probably built at the end of the 12th century and fell victim to a fire in the mid-13th century. The castle and the farm building were abandoned and fell into disrepair.
        The few remains lie high above the Limmat valley in the middle of the forest on the hilltops. They are under regional cultural monument protection.
        The path to the ruins is relatively steep and therefore caution is advised, especially after rainy days (danger of slipping).

            Since there are no reliable written sources about the ruin, much remains unclear. Builders were probably the lords of Schönenwerd, servants of the Counts of Kyburg and later the Habsburgs. On the occasion of an excavation in 1936 ceramic fragments and a lance-shaped arrows were found. These finds suggest an edification towards the end of the 12th century. In the middle of the 13th century the castle fell victim to fire and was abandoned. A short time later, the economy building was abandoned, and both buildings fell apart.

            When the castle was excavated by Reinhold Bosch, Albert Matter and Karl Heid in 1936, hardly any traces of the ruin were left. Some wall remains were excavated and conserved.
            The castle was divided into two parts. On the southern hilltop, the highest point, stood a round tower (presumably a keep) beside a quadrangular palace. The high entrance to the tower with an inside diameter of 4.1 meters and a wall thickness of 1.2 meters was probably on the first floor and was connected with a wooden gallery with the Palas. On the northern hilltop stood an economy building.

              The ruin is what the name implies: a real ruin with few contemporary witnesses. In addition, fans of the view will not get their money's worth here, because the ruin is in the middle of the forest, albeit slightly elevated on two hilltops.
              The beaten path is hardly manageable for prams and people with reduced mobility. Nevertheless: A visit to the ruins is worthwhile in connection with a hike to the Hasenberg and the nearby Egelsee.
